Years ago, when I started writing, I didn't mind that Lulu's printing fees were high & detracted from earnings. Back then, I also kept the book prices low. As a result, there was little profit.
I let this go for over a decade because making money from book sales wasn't my goal.
In June of 2024 I announced that I transferred the printing & distribution of my books from Lulu to Amazon. I did this hoping to generate revenue because Amazon's printing fees are lower. Otherwise, I would have had to raise prices significantly.
After a couple of months I noticed that my book sale profit was still meager. When I contacted Lulu & Amazon I learned that in order for those new revenue-generating books to be sold the old ones would need to be totally depleted from the warehouses. This, I was told, could take up to a year.
As of today the revenue neutralization persists.
Besides that, in January 2025 I noticed payments for my latest book, Life Among AI-Controlled Citizens, were also being sapped, when sold on Amazon. This should not have happened because that book was never enrolled in Lulu's Global Distribution. When I reached out to Lulu they told me it was a glitch in their system that they would immediately fix (& they did).
Note: Lulu & Amazon support have been wonderful. This would have happened with any distributor.
They/It will probably keep this up for a long time — the situation may be permanent.
